There is nothing more New Year’s Eve centric or iconic than the Time Square ball drop in New York City, which symbolizes the end of the year gone by and helps to usher in the new one.
Although it may look like a tiny flicker on your television screen at home, it is actually 12 feet in diameter and weighs 11,875 pounds. Built to withstand strong winds, rain, snow, and varying temperatures, the star of New Year’s Eve is suspended above the center of NYC, waiting all year for its 60 second drop.
