The first time around, Jessica Simpson had every little girl’s dream wedding when she exchanged wedding rings with her first husband, Nick Lachey in 2002. Married in a chapel in her home town of Texas, the 22 year old bride arrived in a 1937 Cadillac limousine, and walked down the aisle, on her father’s arm, in front of 350 guests.
This time around though, Simpson, who became engaged to ex-NFL player Eric Johnson in late 2010, is looking for a different kind of wedding.
“We’ve both been married before,” Simpson said in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily. “We’re enjoying our commitment to each other. We want to take our time. We might elope if it gets to that point.”
The couple announced their engagement this past November after Johnson proposed with a three stone engagement ring featuring a center diamond and two flanking rubies, Simpson’s birthstone. And although colored gemstones are in for engagement rings right now, Simpson shared that she had simply wanted something different from her first engagement to Lachey, who coincidentally had announced his plans to marry longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo only days before.
Simpson had previously hinted that she would like to be married by the holidays this coming December, but has since kept quiet on setting a date. However she did share her wedding gown plans when she sat down with WWD.
‘I will be part of designing my own wedding gown,’ she told the publication. If Simpson’s growing business empire is any indication, the singer might just be up for the job.
Her company, which designs shoes, handbags, and sunglasses, is slated to be the first celebrity brand to earn $1 billion in annual sales this year.
