Oscars 2011: Stars Walk the Latest Trends down the Red Carpet

The Oscars were a toss-up last night, and whether you loved the hosts or hated the hosts/cheered for the winners, or mourned for the losers, determines on which side of the coin you landed.  But regardless of who won or who lost, or the “young and hip” vibe the academy tried to enforce upon us last night, one thing always remains constant, and that is that year after year, for 83 years, the Oscars is the ultimate ‘who-are-you-wearing’ event.

And Hollywood did not disappoint, with many of this year’s leading ladies looking at times classic and other’s trendy, but above all; elegantly displaying what are sure to be this year’s hottest trends.

Amy Adams may not have walked away with the award for best actress in a supporting role, but she is already making headlines for her stunning look last night.  The blue-eyed actress chose a dress to match her eyes in a sparkling blue, L’Wren Scott cap-sleeved gown, which she chose to pair with a platinum and diamond bracelet, and diamond earrings.  But perhaps her most eye-catching accessory she wore was a platinum necklace featuring 575 diamonds and a central 30.75-carat carved emerald.  The green gemstone around a potential award winner’s neck reinforces the rumor that 2011 may be the year of the Emerald.

Recently engaged actress Reese Witherspoon, always an Academy Award staple, was on hand to present last night, wearing a black and white, retro inspired Armani Privé gown last night.  And the best part of the look was that she chose to keep it simple, opting to go necklace free and instead accessorized with her diamond engagement ring.  The actress, who got engaged over the holidays,  has been seen all around town with the over 4 carat Ashoka diamond ring, which reportedly it so difficult to cut that only around 10 percent of rough diamonds each year are viable.

Penelope Cruz restated her love for Sapphires last night, wearing a pink sapphire and diamond ring while cheering on her husband, Best Actor nominee Javier Bardem.  The newlyweds quietly exchanged wedding bands in a private beach ceremony recently, but Cruz has long been seen wearing a Blue sapphire and diamond engagement ring, similar to the wildly popular to the royal engagement ring.

The biggest moment of the night however, belonged to Natalie Portman, who took home the much anticipated Best Actress award.  The actress has been making headlines left and right this year, both professionally and personally with her acclaimed performance in ‘Black Swan’ as well as her engagement and pregnancy announcements.  Portman is known for her quiet elegance wore a Rodarte draped chiffon gown in violet, nut much like Witherspoon, chose to keep it simple with only a paired of purple chandelier style earrings.  Her engagement ring  however, remains ever present.  The ‘vegan style’ engagement ring was specially designed by her fiancé, Benjamin Millepied, to feature a vintage center diamond, conflict free accent diamonds and recycled platinum.

So yes, last night’s Oscars did have its cringe worthy moments, inevitably a three hour awards ceremony always does.  However, there were also big wins, big laughs, a few genuinely heartfelt moments, and so much more than we could describe, but these are our picks for our favorite looks last night.  Did you have a favorite?  Sign into our Facebook page to share who you thought was last night’s best dressed.
